Questions we've been asked

DEWALT PLUNGE SAW 30/04/08
Hi
Q: You say the dewalt plunge saw can be used with my festool rail. Is it possible to join the festool and dewalt rails together or are they different in that respect. Can the clamps be used on both.
Cheers

A: You can't join Festool rails to Dewalt rails as the spine on a Dewalt rail is in the middle which makes the unit able to run both sides where as the Festool rail the spine is set to one side so u can only use one side.
The good thing about the Dewalt unit is that you can use it with all your exsiting Festool gear.
The Dewalt clamps are bigger than the Festool ones but i have been assured that they are compatible.
On the whole Dewalt have taken the best part of the Festool and improved on it also making it able to run on both systems comes in 110v 240v or 28v cordless

DeWalt's answer to the Festools TS55 DWS520K 110v 240v Plunge Saw

04/04/08
Hi My name is JC.
I am the guy in the picture that you are using to advertise the saw. I was very impressed with your website and thought i would pass on my knowledge of this machine as for your to pass onto your customers.

I have been testing these saws (prior to release) for about a year, but I have found a couple of things that are apparent when using the machine and might disappoint if are not known.

Firstly.... the Dewalt rail is not Wider than Festool... it is the same width... only double sided..
Secondly.. The Dewalt saw will fit on the Festool track system, but the Festool will NOT.... fit on the Dewalt track system.
The cutting doors in situ is correct, problems with may arise skirtings as it will not get into the corners by about 80mm one way and 175mm the other..

The feature of dust extraction ( about 95% efficient) is a really big player with these tools as well....ie if a tradesman spends 1 hour a day clearing up dust.. thats 20hrs a month, 240 hours a year (approx 6 weeks a year tidying up your own mess... who can't afford a hoover now..?) A great accessory to have on your van.
Also i'd like to mention the patented parallel plunge and anti-kick back system...
Its a great safety feature ( ask any festool guys about kick back)

The 1m rail is in my opinion a supplement to the system rather than being a main player as it will not cut across a 4ft ( 1.2m) sheet of material.
So Ideally the saw, 2 x 1.5m rails and a jointing strap or 1 x 1.5m and a 2.6m would be the better investment.

A great range of accessories is available clamps, joiners, guide rail bag are all of excellant quality and would assist any pro to acheive the high prescision cut and making life on the job much more easier and enjoyable.

Square attachment and the XJ Angle attchment are also a great pieces of kit to have ready and waiting for use.
